The Cannabis College of America (CCA)

The Cannabis College of America (CCA) in State College, PA, has launched its online cannabis education platform. It’s a sign of great things to come.

Founded by lifelong cannabis advocate Larry Nagle, CCA “aims to deliver the
most comprehensive, hands-on, and industry-driven cannabis education in the United States,” according to officials. The school, which held its official grand opening on April 20, said its mission is to train the most skilled, work-ready professionals and place them directly into the fast-growing cannabis industry.

"At the Cannabis College of America, our greatest product is our graduates," said Nagle. "We're not just teaching cultivation — we're building careers."

The launch is important because it is indicative of a revolutionary trend. Indeed, as California’s East Bay Times reported earlier this year, “The cannabis industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, with the global market projected to expand from $57.18 billion in 2023 to $444.34 billion by 2030, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 34.03%. In the United States alone, cannabis sales are
anticipated to reach $33.6 billion by the end of 2023, driven by the opening of new adult-use markets.”

Consumer education isn’t just accompanying industry growth, but it helping to spur it. As the publication added, “A significant driver of this growth is the increasing emphasis on consumer education. As more individuals explore cannabis for medicinal and recreational purposes, understanding its complexities has become essential. Dispensaries are transforming into knowledge hubs, with budtenders
serving as expert guides to help consumers make informed choices. This shift is crucial, as studies indicate that formal education can reduce the negative stigma associated with cannabis consumption.”

Industry-Focused

Founder, CEO, Educational Director and Lead Instructor Nagle – also known as The Bush Doctor and Dr. Dank -- has “dedicated his life to the advocacy and activism of cannabis, becoming a significant figure in the industry through his extensive research and cultivation efforts,” according to a release. “With a passion that spans decades, Larry has consistently been at the forefront of cannabis innovation and education.”

Nagel is joined by Scott Burgett, COO of Green Earth Cannaceuticals (GEC), as lead instructor. “Together,” the company added, “they bring a rare combination of academic rigor, commercial expertise and passionate advocacy for responsible cannabis growth. Their leadership ensures a forward-thinking curriculum rooted in science, innovation, and sustainability.”

CCA offers five programs designed to cover all aspects of cannabis and hemp development:

Core Program – An introductory course for new growers, from
seed to harvest.

Master Medical Methodology & Practical Application – For professionals entering or advancing in the medical marijuana sector.

Industrial Hemp – A two-part course with hands-on product development in biofuel, textiles and hempcrete.

Genetics and Strain Development – In-depth training in cannabis breeding.

AI-Integrated Robotics for Greenhouse & Farm Management –  Which covers automation in commercial cultivation.

“Each course is taught by experienced professionals and structured to provide real-world skills through interactive assignments and virtual labs,” according to the release. “Maximum Ratio: 10 students/ one instructor.” There is also a zoom call platform that allows student interaction with live Q&A.

Core Curriculum

The school’s curriculum provides genuine depth. For example, as its web site points out, the week-one lecture starts with seed selection.

“Not only what seed varietal and type best fits your desired needs and end goals,” the school explained. “What are the best sources for your genetics? Because of existing laws and policies, legal sources sometimes may be still limited. Next, we move on to which Rootzone best fits your particular growing environment. Hydroponics or Soil? Pots or Grow Bags? Top water or bottom flood? Totally organic or a combination with conventional methods? Which integrated pest
and pathogen management programs will work best for you?”

Week two looks at lighting selection and ventilation and air filtration systems – from activated carbon filters, high volume ventilation systems and CO2 air scrubbers to scenting exhaust air with natural botanicals. This is followed in week three by the proper methodology on how to germinate seeds and care for infant seedling “so you accomplish lowest mortality.”

Week four delves into the vegetative phase, both PH. and nutrient requirements. Week five covers the flowering phase, with changes to lighting and adjustments to nutrients and feeding schedules. Finally, week six looks at finishing, harvesting and drying.

Advanced programs include:

Master Medical Methodology & Practical Application – The course is structured around advanced education for management and cultivators seeking employment or advancement “in the already thriving industry of medical marijuana,” the company explained. Successful competency testing is required for a certificate of completion/excellence.

Industrial Hemp: The Future of American Farming – A two part course that covers a broad subject matter ranging from sustainable biofuel to non-flammable superior building materials.

Genetics and Strain Development – Including material on genotypes, isolating phenotypes, line breeding, back crossing, feminization and more.

Artificial Intelligence Interfaced Robotics – For Management of large-scale commercial greenhouses and farming.
